Tired of waking up feeling bloated and guilty about the binge eating the night before?

Wish you could stop binge eating but have no idea how to?

Sick of feeling trapped?

Often binge eating comes in some form of restrict/ binge cycle and it can be a mixture of the 3 causes (discussed below). This blog/ video goes over the 3 main causes of binge eating and how to overcome them.

With each blog post, I like to give even extra value. I invite you to watch the "Start Overcoming Emotional Eating Today: Master Class" I have created.

In this master class you will learn the first step to overcoming emotional eating and exactly HOW to do this.

You can get access to the master class by clicking the blue button above.

The 3 Main Causes of Binge Eating and How to Overcome Them

1) Cause of Binge Eating: Restriction

If you are not allowing yourself to eat certain foods you are increasing the chance that you will binge. This is because you psychologically are causing yourself to want these foods more, you are putting these foods onto a pedestal.

To overcome this:
- Change the way you are viewing food/ diet, no foods are good versus bad.
- Focus on nourishing your body.
- Check out my blog post on how to include more healthy foods without feeling like you are on a diet here: https://makaylacarpenter.com/include-more-healthy-foods-without-feeling-like-you-are-on-a-diet/

2) Cause of Binge Eating: Not Eating Enough

This is a form of restriction where you are not eating enough (for example on a diet, or to try and make up for a binge episode). This amplifies the urge to binge because you are hungry: you are more likely to have a black and white mindset about your diet.

To overcome this:
- Shift your focus towards nourishing your body with plenty of wholefoods rather than restricting your calories.
- Check out my blog post on why calorie counting for weight loss is not the best option and what to do instead. https://makaylacarpenter.com/calorie-counting-for-weight-loss/

3) Cause of Binge Eating: Avoiding Feelings

If you find that your binges are coming when you are feeling a certain way or when certain things happen you have likely formed an emotional avoidance habit. This is where an emotion is the trigger for binge eating.

To overcome this:
- You need to understand the trigger – what thoughts and emotions are happening when you want to binge eat.
- Once you are aware of the trigger, you are able to start working through it and unlearning this habit.

In Closing:

Binge eating is more often than not a mixture of the above causes. To overcome it, it is important to first become aware of what is causing it. Once you know what the trigger is, you can start creating changes and overcoming it.
